Centrum excelentnosti biochémie sacharidov GLYCOBIOS

Centrum GLYCOBIOS je zamerané na komplexný molekulárny výskum enzýmov degradujúcich a modifikujúcich komplexné sacharidy mikrobiálneho,
rastlinného a živočíšneho pôvodu. Činnosť centra zahŕňa izoláciu a biochemickú charakterizáciu enzýmov typu glykanáz,
glykozyltransferáz a esteráz, izoláciu a klonovanie príslušných génov, heterológnu expresiu, kryštalizáciu natívnych a
heterológne exprimovaných proteínov, stanovenie ich 3D štruktúry, teoretické výpočty aktívnych centier, návrhy a syntézu
špecifických inhibítorov a ich testovanie. V práci centra sa uplatňujú metodológie biochémie, proteomiky, genomiky,
teoretickej a syntetickej organickej chémie, kryštalografie a štrukturálnej chémie. Získané poznatky sú využiteľné pri
návrhu a syntéze nových liečiv, herbicídov a fungicídov, potravinárskych aditív, modifikácií polysacharidov a
biodegradácii rastlinnej hmoty.
