Activities
The CCY collection holds 3,600 strains of yeasts and yeast-like organisms including biotechnologically important strains, strains isolated from different contaminated sources, from various ecological niches, strains with specific characteristics, mutant cultures, type and patent strains...
Production Department provides facilities for large-scale isolation of natural compounds and preparation of saccharides and their derivatives also for commercial purposes. Currently the Production Department offers many of the less common monosaccharides, some oligosaccharides, a series of 1-deoxy-1-nitroalditols, and some polysaccharides with covalently bound dyes for use in enzymology. Moreover, the Department is the sole manufacturer of some rare saccharides. In addition to products included in List of Products, the Department has also the capacity for the preparation of many other saccharide derivatives on the basis of custom synthesis. The requests for supplies can be made either in small package sizes for laboratory use or in bulk quantities...
The Journal Chemical Papers (Chemicke zvesti) publishes fundamental studies, both experimental and theoretical on all branches of chemistry. Special attention is given to articles of general interest. Papers concerned with chemical techniques, instrumentation, applications, and technological aspects are also accepted...
Analytical Department consists of the skilled professionals carrying out research in the area of physico-chemical characterization of chemical compounds and provides service for other researchers of the Institute and beyond it performing measurements involving sophisticated scientific equipment. Measurments for commercial purposes are also available. The instrumentation available at the Department includes: NMR (1D and 2D experiments), IR spectroscopy (solutions, liquids, solids), Mass spectrometry (MALDI, EI, CI), elementary analysis, GLC and HPLC, optical rotation...
The Bratislava Symposia on Saccharides have been regularly organized by the Institute of Chemistry, Slovak Academy of Sciences since 1978, originally as the meetings of carbohydrate scientists from former East-bloc countries. As the political climate loosened, our Symposia became one of the excellent opportunities for inviting and meeting distinguished carbohydrate scientists from all over the world...
Commission on Yeasts brings together researchers and students from various research institutions, universities and industry interested in yeast research in order to facilitate dissemination of new knowledge among them...
